Brand Story

2020 was what many would call a tumultuous year beginning with the seemingly untimely death of basketball phenom Kobe Bryant rolling right into a global pandemic that literally put the world on pause. I like many of you know someone who has had or unfortunately succumbed to the virus. We were forced to wear masks and figure out new ways to learn, teach and work which helped us figure out ways to stay connected. The global pause highlighted the continued violence against historically marginalized people and shed a much needed light on the inconsistencies in our healthcare systems. The social isolation took a mental, physical and emotional toll on many and I was not surprised to learn that the sale of candles increased during the pandemic. What for me started out as a way to satisfy a strong need to be creative and feel good eventually gave birth to the One Spirit Candle Company.

The name One Spirit is a gentle reminder that we all emanate from the same source and that we are all connected. We saw this Spirit demonstrated as folks from across the globe came together to protest over aggressive and deadly policing against Black people. We saw communities come together to support and celebrate healthcare workers and other essential personnel as they made sure our food, mail and packages were delivered. This company is a way for me to share my Spirit, crafting candles that hopefully provide a relaxing aromatherapy experience and bring all around good vibes to your space. I use 100% soy wax without any additives or dyes. The candles are cured for two weeks to offer the best aromatic experience using clean, phthalate free fragrances. I love the natural beauty and smells in nature so the fragrance offerings are mostly earthy and relaxing with some floral and uplifting choices. I am constantly testing fragrances and fragrance combinations so check back often for new additions.

I know the importance of supporting our community and my company is committed to donating 10% of online sales to organizations in Philadelphia that are working to end food insecurity and homelessness, two social conditions that were severely exacerbated by the pandemic. Despite the trauma and tragedy experienced in 2020 I am grateful to have had an opportunity to focus on what is truly essential. I believe in my heart that we can collectively and consciously rise above these unsustainable conditions. We have a choice. I hope you enjoy these offerings and remember the mighty SPIRIT within you. You are appreciated.
